Regulation and safety

XTB was founded in Poland in 2004 and its parent company XTB S.A. has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 2016. Which entity you join depends on your country. XTB S.A., licensed by the Polish regulator KNF, serves Poland, Italy and, through local branches, countries such as Germany, France, Spain, Portugal and the Czech Republic. XTB Limited in Limassol, licensed by CySEC (licence 169/12), serves countries including the Netherlands, Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg and Sweden.

Client money is held separately and retail clients have negative balance protection. XTB Limited clients are covered up to €20,000 by the Cypriot Investor Compensation Fund; clients of XTB S.A. fall under the Polish compensation scheme.

One caveat: in 2026 the KNF fined XTB S.A. 20 million zloty, partly over how clients were informed about CFD risks in 2022 and 2023. The French branch was fined by the AMF in 2021.

Costs

On the standard account you pay no commission on forex; the cost is in the spread. XTB Limited publishes target spreads of 1.2 pips on EUR/USD, 1.4 on GBP/USD, 1.8 on USD/JPY and 1.6 on EUR/GBP. Share and ETF CFDs carry a 0.3% mark-up in the spread.

Also:

  • An inactivity fee of €10 per month, but only after a year without trading and three months without a deposit.
  • Withdrawals are free from €100.
  • Currency conversion costs 0.5%.
  • You earn interest on uninvested cash, unless your account is inactive.

Platform and range

You trade exclusively through xStation, XTB's own platform, in the browser and as an app. xStation is fast and clear, with built-in charts, news, an economic calendar and sentiment data. MetaTrader 4 was discontinued in March 2024; MetaTrader 5, cTrader, expert advisors and copy trading are not available.

The range covers more than 2,600 CFDs on forex, indices, commodities, shares, ETFs and crypto. In many countries XTB also offers real shares and ETFs with 0% commission up to €100,000 monthly turnover.

Education and support

The demo account never expires. XTB has an extensive knowledge base covering trading, risk management and markets, plus daily market analysis. Support is available on weekdays via chat, phone and email. Hours and languages depend on the entity that serves your country.

Who is XTB for?

XTB suits traders who want a full-featured proprietary platform, want to start without a minimum deposit and also want to trade shares and ETFs alongside forex. If MetaTrader or automated trading matters to you, look elsewhere.
