Regulation and safety

Plus500 serves EU clients through two licensed entities. Plus500CY Ltd in Limassol, licensed by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC, licence 250/14), serves countries including Germany, France, Spain, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Greece and the Czech Republic. Plus500EE AS in Tallinn, licensed by Estonia's Finantsinspektsioon (licence 4.1-1/18), serves the Netherlands, Poland, Ireland and Denmark. Both entities provide services across the EEA under the European passport. Plus500 does not accept new clients from Belgium.

Client money is held in segregated accounts and retail clients have negative balance protection. Depending on the entity, the Cypriot Investor Compensation Fund or the Estonian investor protection fund covers up to €20,000 per investor if the broker fails. The parent company Plus500 Ltd has been listed on the London Stock Exchange since 2013 and publishes annual results. We found no fines from European regulators in the past five years.

Costs

Plus500 charges no commission on CFDs; its fee is built into the spread. Spreads are variable and Plus500 publishes no typical values: you see the live spread per instrument in the platform. In independent measurements the average EUR/USD spread was around 1.3 pips, higher than at brokers with a raw account.

Also bear in mind:

  • Overnight financing on positions held overnight, as a daily percentage of the position value.
  • An inactivity fee of up to US$10 per month if you don't log in for three months.
  • A currency conversion fee of up to 0.7% when an instrument is priced in a different currency from your account.
  • A guaranteed stop-loss is available, but comes with a wider spread.

Platform and range

You trade through Plus500's own platform: a web trader and apps for iOS and Android. It is clear and easy to learn. Useful risk tools include the guaranteed stop-loss, trailing stop and price alerts. There is no MetaTrader, cTrader or TradingView integration, so automated trading is not possible.

The range covers more than 2,800 CFDs on forex, indices, commodities, shares, ETFs, options and crypto. Plus500 also offers real share investing (Plus500 Invest) in some EU countries, but not in all of them.

Education and support

The demo account is free and has no time limit. The Trading Academy offers articles, videos, an e-book and webinars, though it is less in-depth than at brokers that focus on education. Support is available 24/7 via chat, WhatsApp and email. There is no phone support.

Who is Plus500 for?

Plus500 suits traders who want a simple, well-regulated platform and don't need MetaTrader or automated trading. Frequent, cost-focused traders pay relatively wide spreads here.
